Alright I can hear the comments now: the EV6 GT is an “SUV” and it should be more of a Tesla Model Y Performance competitor
Well, go watch my video from yesterday and you’ll see why I have it against the 3, not Y
The highlights are this: the EV6 parading around as an SUV is total joke. It’s a hatchback, but if they called it that no one would buy it
The trunk is decent size but not huge and the rear seat legroom is great, but the headroom, even in the driver’s seat i laughable
I’m 6’1” and I can’t even wear my Melins without hitting the nub on the roof…not an SUV then
Hence the comparison to the Model 3
So let’s get down to it
–
1 – Pace
It’s in the name and it goes to the Model 3
The Model 3 is quicker to 60 by .1 of a second
The Model 3 also claims a 1 mph faster top speed at 162 mph

2 – Performance/Dynamics
The Tesla is fun to drive in the sense that the sensation of speed is ridiculous
It’s also relatively decent in terms of handling
It’s got good chassis composition, the steering is ok, and damping is solid
HOWEVER
The EV6 feels much more “sports car” at least for an EV
It still feels heavy but the EV6 is much more playful – the back end will step out more predictably, the chassis just feels a little more together, and the steering feel better

3 – Ride
Both cars are “fine”
The Tesla has bette damping but those uberturbine wheels make you feel everything
The Kia is just stiff kinda everywhere

4 – Range
Here’s what made this a no brainer for me
The Kia EV6 GT makes huge headlines with super performance figures
Big HP
Little 0-60
Drift mode
BUT it comes to the tune of 206 miles of range
“Oh well it’s the fast one so of course the range will be less”
Ok sure, but the model 3 Performance is quicker and gets OVER 100 MORE MILES
315 miles of range
And then there’s the whole conversation about real-world range and in the snowy week I had the EV6 GT, even leaving it in GT mode to help deal with the snow, it was only getting 2.4 miles per KwH
The car’s battery is 77 kWh which means if you could use the WHOLE pack, which you can’t, you’re only getting 185 miles
Under 200 miles of range…in the most expensive one you can get…unacceptable
Now I will say, the Kia is built of the 800V architecture while the tesla is on 400V so the Kia will charge faster so you have to decide if that tradeoff is worth it to you

5 – Looks
This may be a hot take, but i really don’t care for the look of the EV6 – the Ioniq5 is so much more my speed
That said, the Model 3 is also not my jam
Neither car is attractive, neither car gets a point
Also, the annoying thing is that both performance variants are almost NO DIFFERENT from the normal car
Some different wheels and brakes and that’s it
Can you imagine if BMW made the M3 look like a 330 but with fancy wheels and green brakes?!
Do better, EVs
6 – Interiors
Now, i do have my issues with the EV6 interior
Namely, i hate the center toggle between climate and media
And we talked about the lack of headroom
HOWEVER, the rear seat is huge
The interior is made largely out of recycled materials
I like the acid green accents
The Tesla interior just kinda sucks
You get a great pano roof, but the build quality is bad
The materials are cheap
The design is arguably too minimal
And I want a gauge cluster
Can we as a society please stop pretending Teslas are luxury cars?
The Kia has a better interior..and it gives you car play…cmon EV companies
7 – Price
This category is tough to talk about because if i made this video 2 weeks ago it would be a totally different story
BUT Tesla DID slash the price of a Model 3 performance by like 9 grand so as-tested the Model 3 Perf ends up being almost 5-figures cheaper than the Ev6 GT
So think about this for a second
The Model 3 is ~10,000 cheaper
It gives you OVER 100 MORE MILES OF RANGE
It’s quicker to 60
It’s got a higher top speed
You get the supercharger network
You get a huge pano roof
I’m not at all a Tesla fan-boy
In fact I’m rooting for others to catch up so we have other options in the marketplace
But obviously, based on the reasons we just talked about, the competitors aren’t there yet
The EV6 is a good car, I liked it, it was fun to drive
BUT You can’t argue with that HUGE disparity in range and price
You just CANT argue against the Tesla right now
