A Chinese EV Sportscar similar to the Qiantu K20 Hatchback

Qiantu Motors was quiet for a while after the reveal of the K50 electric sports car in 2018, but the Chinese automaker is back with a new production model. Just like its older brother, the Qiantu K20 is a two-seater sports car with all-electric powertrains, but with an unusual three-door hatchback silhouette.

The K20 was previewed by two concept cars in 2018 and 2019. The final production model retains the basic shape and dynamic lines of the concepts, but infuses style cues from the K50, including more traditional lighting units.

The K20 appears to have a compact footprint, with two-box proportions and a short wheelbase. The aggressive headlights are accentuated by false air intakes, the windshield has a striking slope, and the doors take up most of the space between the wheels. The characteristic curved line from the concepts gives the EV a two-tone look, with a white face and a silver tail. At the rear, there’s an odd-looking rear window with an integrated spoiler and a hidden diffuser above the full-width LED taillights.

Inside, the extraordinary styling options continue with asymmetrical air conditioning vents and a very thin middle tunnel between the seats that reveal the narrow cabin. Typically, there is a digital cockpit with the infotainment system integrated into a single panel behind the instrument cluster and two-spoke steering wheel. Copper details on the instrument panel and door cards are combined with gray and white upholstery to add color to the ambiance.

Details of the electric drivetrain are unknown, but Car News China reports that the K20 is equipped with a single electric drivetrain that allows acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.7 seconds. One of the press photos shows the K20 drifting in a rear-wheel drive setup. Note that the older and possibly more expensive K50 is equipped with dual electric motors producing a combined 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 78 kWh battery.

Qiantu has already started taking orders for the K20 in China, with the first deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022. We don’t know if the company plans to export the EV elsewhere, but efforts to bring the K50 to North America continue to fail. . Strangely, the “news” section on the official Qiantu website has not been updated in years despite their active participation in the shows.
